Space, Shape, Touch

Space, Shape, Touch

”Space, Shape, Touch” is the visiting project of the Museum of Contemporary Art of the Republic of Srpska in Banja Luka, which has been realized with the Typhlological Museum in Zagreb as the expert associate and organized as the first adapted and specialized exhibition for the blind and the visually impaired in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The exhibition covers graphics, paintings, and sculptures from the Museum collection, and it is dedicated to the opus of the “Space – Shape” art group founded in 1975, consisting of prominent artists such as Tomislav Dugonjić, Enes Mundžić, Lјubomir Perčinlić, Edin Numankadić, Vojo Dimitrijević, Nikola Nјirić, Bekir Misirlić, Mustafa Skopljak, and Radoslav Tadić. The aim of the exhibition was to show abstract artwork, as significant cultural heritage kept by the Museum of Contemporary Art of the Republic of Srpska, in line with new museology standards, in a way to make them accessible for the blind and the visually impaired.

The “Space – Shape” group introduced abstraction as a new art form and made a radical step away from traditional and – until then – prevailing interpretations of art in BIH, primarily limited within figuration and realism. Formed with the aim of rising over the established mindset with something new and fresh, “Space – Shape” was one of the rare occurrences of group art work in this area, particularly considering the long-term result and impact of their work on the surroundings it originated in.
